A spectacular red-and-white parrot tulip once loved by old Dutch flower painters — and a little bit of Dutch flower history you can grow at home.

5. Irma Boom's 'Book Activist' by Muji Books

A tiny 1,500-page book by Irma Boom, one of the Netherlands’ most renowned book designers — a design object in itself, showcasing her remarkable body of work and approach to bookmaking.

6. IJwit beer by Brouwerij ’t IJ

A classic from Amsterdam’s own Brouwerij ’t IJ — a local brewery known for brewing next to the city’s iconic windmill. IJwit is their fresh, fruity wheat beer, made with Amsterdam tap water, lemon and coriander.

7. Oud Amsterdamse Bos goat cheese from Goatfarm Ridammerhoeve

Possibly the most local Amsterdam cheese — made from raw goat’s milk at the biodynamic Ridammerhoeve farm right in Amsterdamse Bos, then aged for 14–16 months. Bold, tangy and a little funky. Easy to pick up at Fromagerie Abraham Kef, our favourite local cheese shop.
